Press kit for Star Child

Star Child

Star Child is a sci-fi pixel-art metroidvania that tries to honor the classics of the genre, while inserting our own creative aspects.

History

In July 2023 we started planning new games, after some thinking we decided on Star Child being the next game to focus on. We started work in August 2023 by listing the basic concepts we'd want to see in the game, and the main inspirations.

One of the obvious inspirations has been the original Metroid on the NES, but we also drew inspirations from the likes of Xeodrifter, Celeste, Axiom Verge, and Wings of Vi. Also Animal Well has served as a great reminder of how much relatively simple pixel animations can really add to the feeling of a game, we're really trying to learn from that.

Pretty much immediately we knew we'd want Tantrum Tech to make the OST and sfx for this game as well, as they already did a great job with our previous game, Toleo.

We really wanted the movement, traversal, and combat all to be fast and fluid. The world has an air of sinister mystery. The bosses are challenging imaginative spectacles. The music pushes you forward into the challenges, encouraging you while warning you.

About Pale Blue Studios, LLC

I founded Pale Blue Studios because I have always wanted to create video games. It has been my dream ever since I was a small child. In 2022, I realized that it was no longer inviable for a solo developer to create a quality indie title, due to the amount of engines, education, and resources available.

I began my first game in 2022, while still working my normal job, but after six months, I had saved up enough money to quit and focus full time on my dream project. Six more months of full-time game development, and Toleo was released on July 20th, 2023. I had finally accomplished a dream that I had since childhood. The all-important step of completing a game was done. Success was small, but I was satisfied with the game that I had created.

After Toleo's release, I was fortunate enough to partner with Cocreators to help me produce the next game. This allows me to continue my game development dreams full-time, and provides much needed marketing and business knowledge. The future looks bright, and all of us on the Pale Blue Studios team are determined to release fun and creative video games well into the future.
